Saturday 21 January 2006 Farewell James! I met James Hairris, many Moons ago, when he was the manager of The Balinese Room. We hit it off right away, because we were both so gung-ho on the local music scene! James wanted to really make an impact, and take things to a whole new level at The Balinese Room, but, unfortunately, he was unable to implement his vision there, so he quit to look for other ways to do so. James continued to share his enthusiasm and encouragement with local musicians as he searched for a local club to acquire. During this time, he was very supportive of Skip Devlin's desire to form a new band, which has been a valuable addition to our musical community! After many months, and several failed attempts to buy a local club, James finally realized that Galveston was not the place for him, at this time. The Island is a tough place for many people to make a living! The economic engine that it was from about 1870 to 1957 is long gone! Now, it is something very different! We all said farewell to James at Skip's last performance, at The Balinese, on 06 January. He assured me that he will rotate back through this area every few weeks, looking for a time, in the future, when he may be able to get that live-music club after all! Until then, I shall miss him! His departure is a loss to the local music community! ![]() James and his sister. ![]() Skip joins the party! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
