Tuesday 12 April 2005 Tressie Seegers: What's Next? There are probably literally thousands of excellent guitar players, drummers and bass players in this country that can form the foundation for a very solid band. Once this basic trio is in place, what determines who goes onto bigger and better things; big concerts, touring and recording deals? There are legendary stories of bands becoming a success due to promotion and packaging, but in my mind there are two factors that usually give a band that edge they need to set themselves apart: vocals and songwriting. Either extraordinary vocal work, or songwriting that "rings the tuning fork in your loins", as Tin Cup would say, will do it. If you have both, it would be difficult to not make it big! The Tressie Seegers Band has the basic trio in place, and exceptional vocal work by Tressie, that gives them a definite edge! It's too early to say whether their songwriting will put them over the top or not. It takes the judgment of a mass audience to make that decision. We enjoyed meeting Tressie this weekend, and had a lot of fun with her band down at Whisky's! They are due back on The Island, next month, and we wish them well in their quest for that elusive musical "Holy Grail" that they seek. You have to give them a lot of credit for the courage to go out and search for it!! The Tressie Seegers Band |
