Monday 02 May 2005 Where Is Mark Lee? I am very happy to announce that my good friend, Mark Lee, is returning to the Galveston music scene from his self-imposed exile in the Uncivilized Territories, west of the Seawall. Many months ago, Mark left Galveston to take his family west in a covered wagon, into these uncharted areas on the western end of The Island. No one knows exactly what he's doing out there, or how he's living; all we know for sure is that his audacious guitar work, and powerful vocals have disappeared from local music venues. In a scene reminiscent of the John Gault phenomena, Mark's absence brought out a rash of taggers who began to spray paint the phrase "Where is Mark Lee?" around the City of Galveston. It seemed as though the earth had swallowed him up, and some even believed that he had been abducted by aliens! People just didn't realize that he had become a contestant on a new reality show called, "Lost in The Territories". Some claim he built a sod hut to shelter his family from the weather, others say it is more of a Robinson Crusoe/Survivor type of structure made of materials scavenged from shipwrecks! All we know for sure is that the Uncivilized Territories are lands that are inhospitable to Rock & Roll music, as shown by the troubles that Lazy Oaks and The Waterman have had with the natives. It is a strange, strange place where enormous herds of wild buffalo darken the landscape, reported sightings of Big Foot occur on a regular basis, and some say that they have even seen small dinosaurs near the isolated western tip! But what kind of people would choose to live in such a place? A land hostile to Rock & Roll, and without the civilization that we enjoy on the East End? They are The Doomed and The Screwheads! Galveston Music Scene attempted to learn "what goes on out there" by sending a team of Navy SEALs out to find Mark's dwelling, and take pictures of what they saw! The photo below is believed to be from some kind of exotic ceremony, at the Lee compound, where Mark has convinced his neighbors to try his new "hot tub"; which begs the question whether cannibalism exists in The Territories!! ![]() No matter what kind of horrors may or may not take place, out there beyond The Seawall, I am happy to report that Mark will be leaving his compound this Sunday, 08 May, to do a solo performance at Boudreaux's from 2-6 PM. This is his first gig in many months, so let's have a big turnout to welcome him back to town! Maybe his exile is ending! There are rumors that a power trio is in the works, too! |
