Wednesday 14 June 2006 East Beach Music - Galveston's Overlooked Treasure! To: Diana Puccetti Chairwoman Galveston Park Board I have had the good fortune to see a great deal of this country! I have traveled as far north as Bar Harbor, Maine, and as far south as Key West Florida, on the East Coast. I have seen every mile of the West Coast from San Diego to Seattle. My wife and I recently toured the Gulf Coast from Galveston to Naples, Florida on what we called the Cadillac Caravan. HOWEVER, the one thing that I have never found, on any of these travels, was another musical venue like the East Beach Pavilion!!! This is the only place, in the entire country, that I have discovered, which provides a venue for Rock and Roll bands to play right on the beach!! What an experience! Sitting in the pavilion, while the band rocks the deck, as the ships roll by in the channel, and the waves lap up on the beach! Where else does such a place exist? Nowhere!! So with this singularly unique place sitting just 4 miles from downtown Galveston, and 54 miles from downtown Houston; how can there be as few as 50-100 people at the pavilion enjoying this rare treasure, on many weekends? I can’t believe that there isn’t a traffic jam on Boddecker Drive, and an overflow crowd on and around the deck, every weekend! Do only a handful of people on The Island know what is being offered at East Beach? Has anyone told the people of Houston about it? Why is this such an “open secret”?? Of all of the treasures that the Park Board manages; this is the most unique! Isn’t there something that you can do to make more people aware of it? Best regards, David Stanowski $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
