"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."

Don Hits the Road, Again!

Don Emerson of Record It Live

Don Emerson Don Emerson

Don Emerson

No, Don isn't "heading out on the highway" on his Harley; he gave that up more than a decade ago! He's off on a new adventure in an Airstream trailer! Before Don moved to The Island, about 3 years ago, he had been on a 3 1/2-year 30,000-mile journey around the US and Canada, in an Airstream, and he's gotten itchy feet once again!! Life in Galveston has become too predictable for Don, so he's off on another life-altering experience!

Yes, we know this is a dangerous undertaking, because Airstream owners invariably become part of their cult, and participate in very strange ceremonies!! Don also saw the hand writing on the wall, and wanted to sell his house before the bottom drops out of the local real estate market!

Airstream

Don Emerson burst onto the local music scene in February of 2005, with "Record It Live", and his offer to record any local band at no charge. Since that time he has become a real fixture in the Galveston-County music community! Don has been a very generous resource to our local bands, making dozens of recordings, and offering them a solid base of support!

Over the last year and a half, Don has also become a very dear friend, so Miss Jacquelyn and I are quite sad to see him go, but as veterans of The Cadillac Caravan, we understand the need to break free from a comfortable pattern, and find a new groove to life!

Don assures us that with the freedom and mobility that an Airstream lifestyle offers, he will return to Galveston from time to time. In the meantime, he will track what is going on here through Galveston Music Scene, and offer "insights from the road", that we can share with everyone on The Blog. We are hoping that he can check out our formers homes, on The Caravan, in New Orleans, Waveland, MS, Fairhope, AL and Orange Beach, AL, and let us know how things are going over there!

After a string of recent mishaps with tires, Don has even gone so far as to "play it safe on the road" with an emergency road service program, but he still knows how to take care of some incidents on his own. We were with him when a friend ran out of gas, and he knew just what to do!

Out of Gas?

Don may have a traveling companion for the trip, because Stacy has offered to give him his dog; you know, the one he taught to read!

This weekend will be Don's last in Galveston, before his departure, so we'll try to let you know where he will be, out listening to music, which will give everyone a chance to say farewell to the "mad sound man of Galveston"!!

Don's Second Car
Don does have a car, in addition to his truck and trailer!
